BIBLICAL PROOF TEXTS ON THE DIVINITY OF CHRIST

images (9)

First and foremost, the Holy Catholic Church has infallibly taught that Jesus Christ is true man and true God. In the Catechism, it reads: “The unique and altogether singular event of the Incarnation of the Son of God does not mean that Jesus Christ is part God and part man, nor does it imply that he is the result of a confused mixture of the divine and the human. He became truly man while remaining truly God. Jesus Christ is true God and true man” (CCC 464). Thus, all Bible verses cited by the anti-Catholics to prove that Christ is a man do not reject the divinity of Christ. Those verses DO NOT even state that Christ is ONLY a man and NOT God. In fact, the Holy Catholic Church accepts those verses and does not question them. The thing is: the anti-Catholics can’t provide any single verse that shows, word-for-word, that Christ is not God, but the Holy Catholic Church can give them more than ten verses, word-for-word, that Christ is indeed true God.

⚫ Jesus Christ claimed He is God:

John 8:24 (Aramaic Bible in Plain English) — “I said to you that you shall die in your sins, for unless you shall believe that I AM THE LIVING GOD, you shall die in your sins.”

John 13:19 (Aramaic Bible in Plain English) — “Now I am telling you before it happens, that when it has occurred, you shall believe that I AM THE LIVING GOD.”

John 8:58 (Aramaic Bible in Plain English) — “Yeshua said to them: “Timeless truth I speak to you: Before Abraham would exist, I AM THE LIVING GOD.”

John 10:30-33 (New International Version) — “‘I and the Father are one.’ Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, ‘I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?’ ‘We are not stoning you for any good work,’ they replied, ‘but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.'”

⚫ Jesus Christ possess the attributes that make God God:

Philippians 2:6 (Amplified Bible) — “Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained.”

⚫ Jesus Christ is a Person:

Hebrews 1:2 (Amplified Bible) — “[But] in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of a] Son, Whom He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of all things, also by and through Whom He created the worlds and the reaches of space and the ages of time [He made, produced, built, operated, and arranged them in order].”

⚫ Jesus Christ has two natures — human and Divine:

Hebrews 1:3 (Amplified Bible) —  “He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining andguiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. When He had by offering Himself accomplished ourcleansing of sins and riddance of guilt, He sat down at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high.”

Colossians 2:9 (Amplified Bible) — “For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature].”

Romans 1:3 (Amplified Bible) —  “[The Gospel] regarding His Son, Who as to the flesh (His human nature) was descended from David.”

Amen. ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.'”

⚫ Jesus Christ is the real God:

1 John 5:20 (Names of God Bible) — “We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we know the real God. We are in the one who is real, his Son Yeshua Christ. This YESHUA CHRIST IS THE REAL GOD and eternal life.”

Genesis 16:7-14 (New International Version) — “The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered. Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” The angel of the Lord also said to her: You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.” She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” That is why the wellwas called Beer Lahai Roi; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.”

Genesis 22:11-15 (New International Version) — “But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, ‘Abraham! Abraham!’ ‘Here I am,’ he replied. ‘Do not lay a hand on the boy,’ he said. ‘Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.’ Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, ‘On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.’ The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time.”

Exodus 3:2-6 (King James Version) — “And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. He said, ‘If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.'”

Genesis 32:24-25; 28-30 (New International Version) — “So Jacob was left alone, and a manwrestled with him till daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hipso that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man […] Then the man said, ‘Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.’ Jacob said, ‘Please tell me your name.’ But he replied, ‘Why do you ask my name?’ Then he blessed him there. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, ‘It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.'”

(NOTE: The writer to the Hebrews quotes from Psalm 102:25-27. It is argued that the Father is the creator of heaven and earth in this Psalm.
